=========================================== ART NIGHTBASS SE v1.04 FACTORY PRESETS Submitted by Andy Yakubik Email: andy@yakubik.com =========================================== With later versions of the SGX Nightbass SE, ART increased the power of the unit by 400%. These upgrades also included the addition of several preset banks with hundreds of new presets in them. I purchased a Nightbass SE and the first thing I did was a factory reset. My unit is one of the last versions exactly as pictured on the ART website: http://www.artroch.com/products_detail.asp?PRODUCTID=71 It has the understated purple graphics (as opposed to the pink splash graphics) and, more importantly, the most recent (and final) firmware - v1.04. I proceeded to download all of the factory settings with Glenn Thomas's indispensable Nightbass PC Editor. After getting hooked on PC editors for my Line6 Bass POD Pro I'll never go back to tweaking front panel knobs, dials and sliders ever again! Being able to easily tweak changes with a few mouse clicks can save hours of frustration. And the ability to backup custom patches can never be overstated. I've saved these preset files for those of you wanting to hear patches that you may have already overwritten, or for those with older units that didn't include these presets. **WARNING** - writing to any patch # overwrites that same preset number on all banks! As the manual suggests, load custom patches into the higher unused numbers first. That way you don't lose previously saved work. Better yet, use the Nightbass editor and back up your entire system first. Also there may be certain effects or settings which are not backwards compatible with older system chipsets or firmware. I just don't know. Feel free to install and try them out, but it's not my responsibility if they don't work. On to the presets. . . The four banks of factory patches from the Nightbass SE have been saved into four.zip files, and grouped according to the bank they are featured in. The following text is copied from an addendum to the Nightbass manual that explains these patches. I've only made minor grammar & punctuation corrections for easier reading: =========================================== PRESET BANKS, WHAT'S IN THEM With hundreds of presets are available in a device, you must make it effortless to access then all, as well as group them, in an intelligent fashion. ART has created "banks" of presets to supply you with every possible need. Four banks of factory presets, with a total of 430 patches, have been created for the SGX NIGHTBASS SE. The first bank, titled CLASSIC and designated by the letter "A", contains 115 instant use presets for the bass guitar. In bank two, the "B" bank, you find 103 LIBRARY presets. These presets give you a starting foundation to build your own sounds, and also emulate different types of amplifiers. Bank "C", the third bank is the PRODUCTION bank of the SGX NIGHTBASS SE. This bank contains 111 patches you would use in a studio/recording situation. The last bank "D", CONTRIBUTION, contains 104 patches created by recording engineers and artists worldwide. BANK "A" CLASSIC ---------------- We've put together a small sample of the multitudes of sound capabilities of the SGX NIGHTBASS SE has waiting inside for you to experience! The first 30 presets start off with patches created to be played (1-19). Solo, slap, snap, distortion, and subtle effects are all portrayed here. Presets 21-22 feature the Digital tuner. The first one is silent, allowing you to tune in private using twelfth fret harmonics. The second one is set up to automatically detect the string you are tuning and put out a tone of that frequency through your amp! Even if you don't need an "A", perhaps someone without a NIGHTBASS SE does! X- 15 ready patches (23-29) show off just what the SGX NIGHTBASS SE Express is capable of when used with the ART X-15 MIDI Controller pedal. It doesn't stop there. Starting at preset 30 and continuing to preset 100 are 70 (this box does everything) presets. Everything from warm mellow chorus types of bass sounds, wild overdriven ripping lead sounds, "effected" leads, milder dirty leads and "clean" lead patches. Be sure to check out presets 101-115 for some outrageous effects! Buried leads, various wah-wah, tremolo, sampling, pitch shifting, delay, panning and phasing are all featured here. Not enough? It doesn't stop here - you still have three more banks of exciting sounds to go. BANK "B" LIBRARY ---------------- The first 10 patches are "front end" sounds. Use these to set the bass (pun intended!) sound you want and then start adding effects as you like them. We suggest you copy the "preamp" sound up to the top preamp numbers and create your patches here. From preset 11 to 70, we took the preamp sounds and added one effect to them. These presets are excellent for building straight ahead sounds. Starting at preset 71 and continuing to preset 85 are rooms we built and put a bass in. Straight stereo delays are found in presets 86-89. Presets 90-94 are just what they say with slight effect variations. Emulations of bass amp sounds are found in presets 95-103. BANK "C" PRODUCTION ------------------- Individual effects in a patch, small rooms with different mic placements, clean/dirty miced amps, drum and vocal reverb patches are all represented here. From preset 1 to 29, each individual effect has it's own patch. This allows you to just use chorus or compression or any other effect alone. Also, the effects parameters are set at their "default" value. The value each parameter of the effect comes up with when you are building your own patches. From preset 30 to 68 listen to all the different types of rooms you can have for your bass sounds. Dirt, clean, close miced, not-so-close miced, effected, bright, warm and muddled; the possibilities seem endless. The next set of presets were set up to be used specifically with your SGX NIGHTBASS SE patched into a mixing board or console. Vocals and drums may be processed with patches 69 through 111. **For the vocal and drum patches, the mix has been set for all "wet".** This allows you to mix in the amount of "dry" signal to your needs from whatever board (preferably an A.R.T. PHANTOM) you are working from. Remember not to limit your use of these patches to what we say they were built for! BANK "D" CONTRIBUTION --------------------- Artists, producers and engineers worldwide compiled these presets. Presets range from rock lead, interpretations of basses and players, straight, dirty, and of course presets which are totally bizarre. As an extra added benefit, we installed over forty of the hottest sounds from the SGX 2000 EXPRESS! Just let your guitar player friends check out some of the smokin' sounds, just make sure it's still in your rack when they're done! =========================================== And there you have it - all of the original sounds from the latest Nightbass SE. If you have any questions or comments feel free to email me. If you've created any favorite custom patches please save and forward them to Glenn to share through his website at: http://gt1.info/art Email: gt@gt1.info If you're also using the ART X-15 MIDI foot controller there's a shareware PC editor for it as well: http://www.geocities.com/x15setup Very helpful for both programming and backing up. Enjoy!
